This service only works with an itemized hospital bill.
A summary statement or balance-due notice will not contain the detail we need. An itemized bill lists every individual charge with procedure codes (CPT/HCPCS), descriptions, and amounts.
How to request an itemized bill
- 1Call the hospital’s billing department — the phone number is on your summary bill or the hospital’s website.
- 2Ask for a “fully itemized bill” or “itemized statement with CPT codes.”
- 3Hospitals are legally required to provide one. It typically arrives within a few business days.
- 4You can also request it through the hospital’s patient portal, if available.
